2 slightly-salted herring fillets; 2 medium sized beetroots; 2 medium sized potatoes; 2 carrots; 1 onion; 1 apple; 3 eggs; 2 tbsp mustard oil; 5 tbsp mayonnaise; salt; black pepper

Fish in a fur coat (Селядзец пад футрам)

Wash and boil the eggs for 8 minutes, boil some carrot and potato for 20 minutes and beetroot for 50 minutes. Meanwhile, peel and finely dice an onion. Soak it in cold water for 30 minutes then drain it thoroughly. Peel and dice an apple, cover it with a little lemon juice and mix 1-2tbsp of mayonnaise with the onion. Peel the potato and carrot and grate them separately. Salt and mix the individual ingredients with a tablespoon each of oil. Peel and grate the beetroot before adding 2-3tbsp mayonnaise and mixing well. Remove the shells from the eggs and grate them. Finely chop the herring fillet and season it with pepper. Put the salad together on a flat plate layering it as follows: potato, herring, onion and apple, egg, carrot, beetroot. The beetroot layer should cover the other salad layers on all sides. Cover with cling film and place the salad in the fridge for 5 hours. Serve with black bread and vodka slicing and serving the salad like a cake.
